Satyrs & Maenads: the Athens Porn Film Festival is a celebration of art and sexuality held at Romantso. Attracting filmmakers and artists from around the world, Satyrs & Maenads presents over 100 films depicting sex – from the metaphorical to the hardcore – with aesthetics, narratives and performers you can’t see in mainstream porn.

The four-day program is packed with films and numerous events, such as Super Lezat, an Arabesque night at Sami’s Bar just before the festival kicks off.  The Disobedient Dolls party, organized by queer party icons Strap-On Unicorns, who are returning to the festival for the fifth time. The 4th Philosophy in the Boudoir Night, which combines a screening of BDSM films with an all-night party featuring DJ PJ Mugiwara. Daily activities include Pornolaiki (creators’ market), which this year will take place throughout the festival on the first floor and, on the weekend, in the basement; a BDSM workshop by KingMaster D; interactive discussions on porn addiction, and The Porn Academy workshop—a hands-on training in artporn creation for budding local pornographers, followed immediately by a screening of the films produced by the Academy this year. And, of course, the awards ceremony featuring the one and only Melita Scabeau, who will dazzle the audience and guests with her talent for the third year in a row.

The festival will open with Panayotis Evangelidis’s new documentary *Horse and Rider*, which received rave reviews at the Thessaloniki Documentary Festival. The screening will be followed by a Bacchic Initiation ceremony featuring the maenad Cyka del Blyat, as well as the Balkan Brat Party with DJ Carnival Queen and a special live appearance by the legendary “cement woman” Fruit Gillette and special guest Cerberus.

As it does every year, the festival embraces the spirit of hospitality by inviting a festival from abroad to curate a screening of their work in Athens. This year’s guests are Porny Days, who will present a program of films from Switzerland.

“This year we are emphasizing resistance and the anti-war spirit with the new section Antigone and the slogan ‘Make Love, Not War,’” says festival director Menelas Siafakas, a queer director and activist known for his provocative events and exhibitions, “in a world that is burning, with governments worldwide blowing smoke in our faces, it is our duty to listen to our personal compass and not remain silent.”
