Willam Belli is a name you can’t forget. Simply because she is a star. She is successful and she knows it. Actress, drag queen, model, reality television personality, recording artist, author, YouTuber, member of the ultimate girl band AAA Girls, Willam knows how to bring it.
Nobody can forget her appearance on RuPaul’s Drag Race on Season 4, as she holds the honour of being the first queen to be disqualified. Rumours say she had sex with her husband who visited her. Irrespective of that (and no matter what happened), this incident served her so well that it proved that winning a crown is not what a queen needs to become breathtakingly popular.
Willam is also known for her appearance in Nip/Tuck, CSI, The New Normal, plus her appearance in numerous more TV series, films, video clips of legends including Lady Gaga and Rihanna; not to mention that she was the one who did the covers of the songs “Boy Is A Bottom” and “Es Una Pasiva” that immediately reached the top of the charts. There is more. Willam became an American Apparel Ad Girl alongside Courtney Act and Alaska, with whom they formed the AAA Girls that is conquering the pop world.
Willam is an A with no extra I. And she gives an exclusive interview to YASS Magazine. So, sit back, relax and enjoy her fabulousness.
Actor, singer, YouTuber, writer, reality star, dragqueen. What else is Willam?
I’m a novelty at best but I’ve been paid to do all those things you mentioned, plus quite a few more things.
When did you start doing drag?
13 was the first time I had a full look on (wig, makeup, heels, tuck), but my sister and I used to see how much costume jewellery we could put on in stores before my mother yelled at us.
Who are your drag inspirations and role models?
My biggest inspirations are Charles Busch, Leigh Bowery, Boy George, Lady Bunny, Divine, Brini Maxwell, Josh Kilmer-Purcel.
You proved that you don’t have to be the winner of the RuPaul’s Drag Race to be famous and successful. How do you feel about that? Do you think you would be the winner if you were not disqualified?
When I was disqualified from the gameshow, I had won 3 mini challenges out of 7 and 2 main challenges out of 8. Sharon, the eventual winner of the season, was at 1 mini challenge win and 2 main challenge wins. So….make of that what you will.
How did RuPaul appear to your life? How many times did you audition?
I did a book report on her in grade school. I never auditioned. They called me for a tape. It’s a highly influenced program with very little left to chance.
Do you like to break the rules?
Yep!
Did you break the rules deliberately in RuPaul? What really happened? Is it true what they said on the show?
OK that’s enough RuPaul shit.
You give the impression a confident and brave girl. What is your biggest insecurity?
Worrying about anything is just borrowing trouble. I plan for success.
What can a woman learn from a drag queen?
A lot of girls ask me about how to have anal sex without pain.
How would you describe yourself?
I would most likely just google my name and pick a few adjectives.
What is the story behind Box Meat? Could you imagine yourself as a successful business woman some years ago?
Yep. I founded a stripper company 15 years ago in LA and it’s still going strong.
Did you expect the success of your albums and your book?
It was like Christmas and Gay Pride all in one.
What do you like most about being a dragqueen?
I like that I can do poppers/amyl at work.
How did you meet your husband?
He came into the club I worked out and pulled out his dick so he wouldn’t have to pay $5. It was super big.
Are you still in touch with anyone from the show?
I’m nice to everyone and friends with a few. I enjoy working with Latrice a LOT I will say that.
What is the best part of being famous?
Free stuff is kinda dope.
How do you imagine yourself in 20 years’ time?
I would love to be making a difference in the world in a place I can also be really tan.
Has drag gone too mainstream?
I don’t know what the barometer would be to measure that.
What are your plans for the future?
I’m playing one of Gaga’s besties in A Star Is Born, also star in Eastsiders , many plans with AAA Girls and have new music along with my YouTube channel going strong.
What is your last thought before going to bed?
Did I take my Truvada (PrEP)?
What advice would you give to people who find it difficult to tuck and “handle” their balls?
Go get a real job.
