RuPaul’s Drag Race’s Cynthia Lee Fontaine Ushers in a Cucu Christmas

RuPaul’s Drag Race’s Cynthia Lee Fontaine is out now with her new Christmas song, “Bring Me the Holidays.”   The jazzy ballad ushers in the joyous spirit of the holiday season and its video whisks viewers on a magical journey through Cynthia Lee Fontaine’s enchanted Cucu Christmas forest.

Co-written by Armando Barrientos, the jazzy ballad with its pop influence ushers in the joyous spirit of the holiday season and its video whisks listeners on a magical journey through an enchanted Christmas forest.  “Adoro la temporada Navideña,” says Cynthia Lee Fontaine from her Austin home.  “It’s the time of year I reflect fondly on my childhood memories with my family in Puerto Rico.   Amo a mi familia!”

Fontaine also holds a deep love for the island of Puerto Rico.  “What makes Christmas in Puerto Rico special is the music, the dancing and oh, the food,” she continues.  “On Christmas Eve, we would prepare a turkey and a ‘lechon’ (roast pig), a very traditional dish in Puerto Rico. Around midnight, the adults would celebrate with hugs and kisses and then check on the children to make sure we were sleeping because Papa Noel would be coming soon!  Early Christmas morning, the children would wake to presents under the tree and after opening all the gifts, we would gather for our traditional breakfast with the leftovers from Christmas Eve dinner. It was always so much fun!”

What is the definition of a Cucu Christmas?

The Cucu Christmas definition for me is gathering with family and friends and having a great amazing time.

You shine as a glorious Navidad queen in your festive song and music video, “Bring Me the Holidays.” What was the idea behind the song?

The idea behind the song was to bring joy, happiness and positive energy in times where we still struggling with a pandemic. I just wanted to bring a smile and happiness to the holidays.

The music video whisks us on a magical journey through an enchanted Christmas forest. Is this how you imagine a Cucu forest?

Yes, darling you got that right! Lol The idea for the music video was me as a good witch in the forest communing with nature during the Christmas holidays.

What memories do Christmas revive to you?

When I was a kid, I remember my two big sisters and my big brother surprised me and my sister coming from Orlando to visit us for the holidays. That’s a memory that will last forever in my heart.

What is the connection with Puerto Rico?

I do believe the biggest connection to Puerto Rico is that I decided to sing parts of the song in Spanish. I always like to share a little bit of my culture and who I am as a person to the world.

Your boyfriend, Armando Barrientos, co-wrote and produced “Bring Me the Holidays” and directed and produced the music video. How do you find working with your partner?

Working with my boyfriend was a great experience. He is very creative and also a perfectionist. I am the same way. But I’m blessed i’m able to work with him. And more things to come!

How has your life changed after RuPaul’s Drag Race?

My life changed completely after this TV show. One of the reasons is because of the popularity, traveling the world and meeting my fans. I know for sure a change for good. And I’m working in what I love the most: entertainment .

Would you go back to the show?

If I have the invitation again to come back to the show, I will definitely say yes. Working with RuPaul in the production of the show was amazing!

What do you think of the show nowadays? Do you believe it is inclusive and representative enough?

I do believe the TV show it’s opening the doors for the opportunity for everybody who likes this art, to express themselves artistically. For that reason, the show is breaking barriers and stereotypes. Besides, it brings joy and happiness to millions of fans.

What is your opinion about the cis straight male contestant of Season 14? Is it correct or no to open the format to heterosexual people too?

I do believe the show is looking for inclusivity. Opening this opportunity to others is important. Everyone who loves this art should be able to do it. I am very excited that we have two black trans women in the cast for this season. I love it!

How is your life at the moment? Did you manage to overcome the health issue you faced during Season 9?

To be precise, when I went on season 8, I experienced cancer, and it changed my life! But today, I can say I’m still in remission and feeling healthier than ever !

You are a fabulous, inspiring queen and a role model for so many people. What is the message you would like to send to all your fans?

I would like to send a message of love, prosperity but most importantly positive energy on this holiday. And, even with obstacles and inconveniences, you always can make your dreams come true. Thank you all for your love and support! I wish everyone happy holidays and an amazing new year! Thank you for this beautiful interview.
