John Jeffries is the ultimate Instagram sensation and is serving us pink realness! His work is queer and celebrates body freedom. His drawings are undeniably cute, sexy, fun, sophisticated and, most of all, pink! John confesses that if he was a part of a male body he would rather be a testicle so that he would never be alone, plus more in this exclusive YASS interview.

How would you describe your work and your style?

I try to create work that is inclusive, body positive and sex positive.  I think it’s so important to provide representation for as many people as possible in terms of sexuality, body type, and gender identity.  I do my best to keep work cute, fun, minimal, and of course, pink.

Did you expect to become the new Instagram sensation?

I’m not sure that I’m a sensation of any kind, but I’m very flattered and grateful for all the attention I’ve received on Instagram so far!  I love being able to connect with so many different types of people from all over.

People love your work, but little is known about you, apart from some images of you that we see on your profile. Is that really you and do you plan to reveal your identity?

I have posted a self portrait of myself, but I prefer to stay a bit anonymous.  I want my work to speak for itself and the subjects within.  Maybe one day I’ll reveal myself completely.

Which other illustrations you admire and follow? Who is your top 3?

I admire and follow a lot of amazing artists on Instagram! I couldn’t possibly pick a top 3.  I have a highlight on my profile featuring some amazing queer artists that I will continue to add to.  Support queer artists!!

What is the most common thing you receive in your DMs and how do you react?

I get a lot of different DM’s for different purposes, but my absolute favourite ones are from people who see themselves represented in my work.  These messages are always unexpected, but provide me with such motivation to continue on with my art.  It brings me such joy to know that my work is being appreciated on a deeper level.

Which type of men do you like to illustrate?

My absolute favourite people to illustrate are those who have struggled accepting their body in one way or another, and have finally grown to love and appreciate it and want to celebrate that with an illustration.

What makes a model perfect for you?

The perfect model is anyone who wants to celebrate their body!

How do people react after seeing your illustrations of them?

People usually react quite positively when I send them their illustration. I do my best to bring out the best in everyone and help them feel cute and sexy.

What is the ideal man for you?

The ideal person for me is someone who is loving and supportive of everything I do. I’ve been lucky enough to have found him already.

Tell us something about you we don’t know.

I have A LOT of plants in my home.  A lot.

If you could be a bum or a cock what you prefer to be and why?

I would be a testicle, so that I am never lonely.

What is you biggest dream?

My biggest dream is to be able to continue making art for a long, long time to come! 

What makes you scream YASS?

Seeing someone feeling their oats and exuding confidence and  self-love.

What are your future dreams?

I want to be able to continue making more art, more pins, more stickers, more zines, and more everything!
