Enfant terrible. Queer kid. Millennial. Kind of soft porn. Pastel vibes. These are the things that come to your mind after a quick browse of Luis’ pictures on IG. Tell us a little bit about yourself. Who is this queer kid that we like to see on Instagram?

My name is Luis I’m 22 years old and I’m from Venezuela. I work as a freelance Illustrator and sometimes I like to model.  I love naps, music from the mid and early 2000’s, cookies, going to the movies… and I’m pretty much a dog person.

Why did you choose the name “mermansashimi” for your social media accounts?

It comes from a song called “mermaid sashimi” by this amazing Mexican singer called Juan Son. When I first heard it I loved everything about it and it just got stuck in my mind. When I finally decided to create a personal account back in 2016 it was pretty obvious which username I wanted to have.

What does art mean to you?

Art means everything to me, it’s a great way to express yourself when you’re an introvert and still have a lot to say.

How does your body work as the subject of your artwork?

I’ve noticed there’s something that triggers inside our brains or something when we see a lot of skin or nudity in general. Kind of the same feeling we get when we look at adult magazines, we’re passing by but we kinda want to stop and see more. Of course, I try to recreate that feeling but in a more subtle/aestetic way.

What is the message you want to convey to your readers through your work?

I want to transmit a feeling rather than a specific message

You have been featured in several magazines online and already have worked with several artists. How did everything start?

I honestly don´t know. People just started sending messages asking me to collaborate with them and I had a lot of free time so I was like “oh, okay fine”.

How do you identify yourself?

A child inside an adult’s body (I hope this doesn’t sounds like pregnancy)

How different from the seductive, queer, innocent boy that we see on your Instagram account are you in real life?

In real life I’m a regular dude, people often think I’m feminine or delicate or whatever because of my appearance and they automatically assume I’m this magical prince-like fabulous flower boy. But, I’m pretty much an ordinary guy (Yeah, burbs and everything ).

What is your biggest achievement that you feel proud of?

To stop depending on my parents money and start making my own.

Is gender fluidity a term that could be used to describe you?

I like having an androgynous look but I don’t identify myself as a gender fluid person

What are the characteristics that the ideal partner needs to have?

Idealization often leads to deception; we shouldn’t expect anything from someone in order to make us happy.  But of course there are some basic things that are extremely important when it comes to establishing a relationship or meeting a potential partner, like Respect, communication and understanding (a little bit of humour is always a plus).

What is your source of inspiration?

Gay porn, music, fashion, and sweets.

What makes you feel flattered?

When I’m treated equally.

How important is love for your life?

Hmm… It’s like a stone in the middle of the road I don’t mind stumbling with.

What is your favourite colour?

All of them.

What are your future plans?

Omg I never know how to answer to this question… Right not I’m planning on moving to a safer country. Once there I’ll try my best to keep up with my art career and start being an independent functional adult I guess. Modelling is an option too; a possibility but not a priority.
