“To me being a ‘Rich Bi$h’ isn’t even about money, it’s more of just a state of mind where you feel empowered, sexy, confident, and wanna shake some ass.” says Kossisko about their new single ‘Rich Bi$h’.
Kossisko is an innovative musical artist, actor and composer in the intersection of film, music and fashion. The gender-fluid artist has appeared in HBO’s wildly successful Euphoria, and portrayed themself in two seasons of Netflix’s Sex/Life plus various television licenses and video game features such as Grand Theft Auto V and Marvel. Additionally they have been featured in an iPhone 5C campaign and additionally shined as a sought after model, working for Billionaire Boys Club, Mr. Saturday and Midnight Studios.

“The inspo behind the song was basically I wanted to make something that would serve as a soundtrack to a moment when a person is at the height of feeling themselves. Rich Bi$h” not only delivers a pop anthem that’s sure to get listeners moving but also serves as a statement of individuality and self-love”, as Kossisko fearlessly embraces their identity and encourages others to do the same.
“The music video is really just about me celebrating all the aspects of myself and getting to truly represent them,” they continued. “It’s been a struggle for me since I was a child to truly accept myself and love myself for all the different aspects of who I am so this video felt extremely empowering and liberating af. Visually I drew inspo from a lot of people who have really inspired me from Snoop Dogg, Donna Summer, and Pete Burns all the way to artists from the Ivory Coast like Serge Beynaud and DJ Arafat.”
Kossisko’s expression through this new music encourages everyone to not give a damn about what others think about you. Nor be marginalized because of your challenges. So whether it’s mental health issues, anxiety, depression or anything that would hold one back from having agency, his music affirms that we all deserve joy and the space to be who we are without being defined by people who don’t get you. Kossisko believes this attitude is the highest form of self-care, a self-care that lets you take your rightful place in the world.

Who is Kossisko and how do you identify?
To sum myself up I’d say I’m a gender-fluid being that lives at the intersection of funky ass music and performance art. I’m from the Bay Area.
When did everything start?
I think my musical journey really started when I was sent to live in the Ivory Coast for a few years by my father when I was a teenager who was pretty lost and kinda just fucking up. I think because the experience was so isolating at first and I was going through massive culture shock, writing songs was my way of staying connected to the culture I missed back home. It’s crazy though that the end had absorbed so much of the Ivorian culture that it influenced me musically almost just as much as anything from America. The energy of the music and the dancing hit my fucking soul.
How did your identity affect your music and your career?
I’ve always treated music every time I approach it like a collage where I can showcase everything that’s influenced me. Also, at times I think subconsciously things come through in music before I’m aware of them. I think the fact that I’ve always kinda felt like an outsider and I could never really fit into the boxes I was presented by society I sort of just started zoning in on what I like and I don’t worry about what else is going on outside of it. When you feel like an outsider you have to become your own best friend and start making shit that makes you happy. I think there’s a lot of freedom in that.
Is there enough inclusivity and representation in your field?
Definitely Not and that’s something that inspires me to keep creating. I’m trying to be the artist I wish a younger version of myself could have seen. Life probably would have been a lot less confusing.
What does Rich Bi$h mean to you?
To me, the song is just about self-love and confidence. It’s a state of mind. Even if your account is in the red you can still be a Rich Bi$h energetically and spiritually.
How have you grown personally and professionally over the last years?
Getting sober gave me a ton of clarity on every aspect of my life. I had a near-death experience that came in the form of a traumatic brain injury and that was the first time I had to confront my own mortality and that was powerful and filled me with so much gratitude. Also, finally coming out and embracing being a gender fluid being felt like a huge weight lifted off my shoulders and that’s informed every part of my life in an amazing way. Long story short my Saturn return was a motherfucker HAHA!
How do you feel being a multiple Grammy
nominee?
It feels really dope to have my work recognized. It’s something you can’t ever predict or expect to happen so I just feel a lot of gratitude. My parents were really geeked, it was hella cute.
What are your dreams for the future and the next steps?
I just got this visual in my head of me in a sold-out arena sweating my ass off, singing, and dancing with my band behind me serving pure funk like the Stone City Band. I wanna reach people all over the world with my music and spread love and unity.
My new album SLAYERZ BALL is dropping in June and I’ll be playing West Hollywood on June 13th.
