NIC BILLINGTON Unleashes A Seductive Thrill Ride With New Single ‘SLASHER’

Step into the realm of dark seduction as Nic Billington, the maestro of musical allure, releases his latest single, ‘Slasher’ extracted from Nic’s eagerly anticipated second album, Dark Horse, which was released today, 9th February 2024. The track invites listeners into the tantalizing world of love, lust, and the crave for attention.

Crafted by both Nic Billington and Mia van Wyk, the thrilling, synth-loaded ‘Slasher’ fearlessly explores the willingness to embrace the risks in the pursuit of passion and desire, telling the intense tale of an encounter with a stranger.

On the single, Nic Billington said: “An ode to American Horror Story, ‘Slasher’ is about the desperate need for love and attention, even if it means putting yourself in harms way. When you know something is bad for you but you do it anyway”.

“In today’s world of social media and dating apps, a lot of us are constantly putting ourselves out there, seeking attention and validation. This track pokes fun at the whole pursuit of excitement from complete strangers – even though they could very well be a serial killer.”

South African producer Paul Gala adds the distinctive 80s vibe and edgy synths that define ‘Slasher,’ while London-based musician Todd Blackmore injects electrifying guitar magic. With Nic’s captivating vocals leading the way, ‘Slasher’ weaves a narrative of passion and peril, defying the usual boundaries of pop music.

Slasher’ pays homage to the eerie charm of 80s and 90s horror cult movies, blending contemporary pop and vintage terror, putting a unique spin on Nic’s eclectic repertoire and affinity for darker things.

A luminary in the world of dark pop, Nic Billington has captivated audiences globally. From gaining international acclaim through YouTube covers to achieving fame in South Africa, Nic’s journey is marked by chart-topping hits and recognition from pop icon Britney Spears. His upcoming sophomore album Dark Horse promises to boldly explore the darker facets of pop music.

Who is Nic Billington and how do you identify?

Honestly, I’m still trying to figure that one out for myself. What I do know is that I’m extremely passionate about music, visuals and all forms of art. I’m a hard worker, a free spirit, a peacekeeper and a go-getter. I enjoy uplifting others – even though I’m incredibly introverted – and I love the outdoors.

How is risk-taking, passion and desire reflected in your music?

If you listen to some of the lyrics on my new album, you’ll definitely hear me talk about following your heart, taking risks and going after what you want. After all, we only get one life so we really need to live with purpose. When creating the sound for my new record, I actively stayed away from trends and focused solely on the sound that I wanted to create.

How would you describe “Slasher” to anyone that’s not yet heard it?

I would describe “Slasher” as a sexy synthwave bop laced in electric guitar, raspy vocals and 80s undertones – Like something from the 80s, only a little more polished.

It’s been a while since your debut album. How did everything start for you in the music industry and how has your career evolved over the last decade?

Growing up, I always wanted to be a musician but things only started happening for me when I uploaded a series of covers to YouTube in 2008. Somehow, one of my covers was featured on Britney Spears’ official website and with it, lots of attention. I was discovered by an A&R scout, referred to an independent record label and released my first album in 2013. Since then I became an independent artist and self funded my new project.

Your new album ‘Dark Horse’ is out soon. What does this body of work mean to you and how do you feel about finally sharing it with the world?

I’ve been through a great deal since making my first album so writing and recording “Dark Horse” has been very reflective and therapeutic for me. This is a very personal album that has taken 3 years to complete. It’s real-life experiences, it’s authentic and it really represents the person that I am right now. I’m extremely excited to finally be sharing it with the world – and a little nervous too.

What has been the best reaction from a fan?

I once had a person run up to me in a shopping mall in South Africa. She was extremely sweet and asked for a selfie. I was just flattered that someone actually recognised me.

Aside from the new album, what else are you working on in 2024?

I’ll be doing lots of live shows around the UK and working on some more music videos – which is another passion of mine. I also have an underwear collection in the works and some really interesting business ideas so you’ll just have to keep your eyes peeled for that. Basically, world domination! Lol.
